HTCNV Pharmacy

At HTCNV, we are committed to making bleeding disorder care as convenient and comprehensive as possible. Bleeding disorder medications are highly specialized and costly therapies that require careful management and coordination. Our team understands the unique needs associated with these medications and the importance of having reliable access to treatment.

As a not for profit federally designated Hemophilia Treatment Center, we are able to operate pharmacy services with special access to purchase discounted clotting factor through the 340B Drug Pricing Program for eligible patients to help stretch resources and expand services that we provide.

The HTCNV Pharmacy helps to provide patients with easy access to the specialized medications they need and eliminates the hassle of coordinating with outside pharmacies. By working closely with our clinical team, our pharmacy ensures timely medication availability, personalized support, and seamless coordination of care. The program income also supports the comprehensive care of our patients including our multidisciplinary care team, supportive services, education for patients and staff, and other activities.

What Is the 340B Program?

The 340B Drug Pricing Program is a federal program administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The program allows eligible healthcare organizations, including qualifying Hemophilia Treatment Centers, to purchase certain outpatient medications at discounted prices. Hemophilia Treatment Centers are specifically recognized as eligible participants in the 340B program. The program is intended to help these centers provide accessible, comprehensive, coordinated, and family-centered care to individuals with bleeding disorders.

For patients with bleeding disorders, medications such as clotting factor and other specialized therapies can be a significant part of ongoing care. The 340B program helps Hemophilia Treatment Centers make the most of available resources while continuing to provide the specialized care and services our patients need.

Keeping Your Care Connected

One of the important benefits of receiving care through a Hemophilia Treatment Center is having access to a team that understands your bleeding disorder and works together to coordinate your care. The HTCNV Pharmacy and Clinical Team can help coordinate your medical care, medication management, education, procedure plans, and other services related to your bleeding disorder.

The goal is to make your care as seamless as possible and to help you and your family navigate the challenges of living with a bleeding disorder.

Supporting Comprehensive HTC Services

The benefits of the 340B program extend beyond the medication itself. The income generated through the 340B program can only be used to help support the comprehensive services provided by Hemophilia Treatment Centers. These programs are an important part of maintaining the multidisciplinary model of care that allows HTCs to serve patients and families beyond a traditional medical visit. Without the additional funds from the 340B program, many centers would have to reduce the services provided for patients.

Depending on the clinic and needs of the patient population, HTC services may include medical care, nursing support, care coordination, education, social work, physical therapy, psychosocial support, and other resources.

At HTCNV, our goal is to use available resources to strengthen the care, quality, and services we provide to individuals and families affected by bleeding disorders.

Why Is Comprehensive Care Important?

Living with a bleeding disorder involves more than treating a bleed when it occurs. Patients may need support with prevention, medication management, procedures and surgeries, physical activity, school or work, insurance issues, mental and emotional well-being, and other aspects of daily life.

Hemophilia Treatment Centers were developed to provide comprehensive, coordinated care through a multidisciplinary approach. This means that patients and families can have access to professionals with specialized knowledge of bleeding disorders and can receive care that addresses the many different aspects of living with these conditions.

The 340B program is one resource that helps eligible HTCs sustain this comprehensive model of care.

What Does This Mean for You and Your Family?

Our 340B program is ultimately about supporting our patients. By participating in the 340B program, HTCNV can make use of available medication discounts while directing resources toward the ongoing needs of our bleeding-disorder community. This helps us continue our commitment to providing specialized, coordinated care to patients throughout Nevada and surrounding communities.

Our priority is simple: to help you receive the medications, expertise, education, and comprehensive support you need to live well with a bleeding disorder!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does using the HTCNV Pharmacy change the medication I receive?

No, you should be able to continue the same clotting factor medication. The 340B program is a drug-pricing program; it does not change the medication prescribed by your healthcare provider. Your treatment plan will continue to be based on your individual medical needs and the recommendations of your HTC care team.

Does clotting factor cost more if I get it through the HTCNV Pharmacy?

No. The 340B program allows eligible organizations to purchase certain outpatient medications at discounted prices. However, the amount a patient pays out of pocket depends on factors such as insurance coverage, benefits, deductibles, and other requirements. Our team can help you understand how the program applies to your individual situation.

What if I am having problems accessing clotting factor medications?

Bleeding disorder treatments are often extremely costly, and navigating issues with specialty pharmacies, insurance, and patient assistance programs can be very challenging for patients and families. The HTCNV Pharmacy can work with you to resolve insurance or payment issues and help patients with enrollment to various patient assistance programs to ensure they can access their clotting factor medications.

How does the 340B program support HTCNV?

The resources associated with a 340B program can help support the comprehensive services and infrastructure needed to care for individuals with bleeding disorders. This allows HTCs to continue providing multidisciplinary care, education, care coordination, and other services that may not be fully supported through traditional medical reimbursement.

Who can I contact if I have questions?

If you have questions about the Pharmacy, 340B program, your medications, insurance coverage, or how the program applies to your care, please contact the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center of Nevada. Our team is here to help you understand your options and navigate your bleeding disorder care.
